Iga Swiatek of Poland tries to go deep again, squaring it off with Emma Navarro of the United for a place in the quarterfinal round of the 2025 China Open on Wednesday.
Swiatek, the No.1 seed, is a whooping -1100 favorite over the 16th seed Navarro, who owns a 3-7 record against a top-5 opponent.
Current Form:
Fresh off a title in Korea, Swiatek has set sights on another crown at the China Open, a WTA 1000 event. With her main rival, Aryna Sabalenka, skipping this tournament due to injury, Swiatek has emerged as the top favorite to win it all. So far, the Pole has lived up to her lofty billing as she dismantled Yue Yuan 6-0 6-3 and Maria Camila Osorio Serrano 6-3 ret to extend her winning streak to six matches.
Navarro also barged into the round of 16 after trouncing 2025 French Open semifinalist Lois Boisson of France 6-2, 1-0. After overcoming a tough opening challenge from Elena Gabriela Ruse of Romania in the first round, 6-2. 7-6, Navarro came out hot as she earned two breakpoint conversions en route to a 6-2 win in the first set. Navarro broke again to start the second set, forcing a morally and physically battered Boisson to retire. Navarro clinched her 8th quarterfinals appearance this year and improved her hard-court slate to 16-12.
