The Houston Texans (4-1 SU, 1-3-1 ATS) visit the New England Patriots (1-4 SU, 1-3-1 ATS) in a battle of two teams clearly heading in different directions. The Texans have shown themselves to be a good, not great team to this point, as they have handled the teams they should beat without looking impressive. Houston looked to be firmly in that second tier last year, as it couldn’t handle Baltimore in the divisional round.
New England still has a very long way to go. The Patriots got off to an encouraging start by beating Cincinnati, but since then, New England has looked more like the Patriots of the late 1980s whose jerseys they’ll be wearing here. That’s not a compliment. While those jerseys looked great, those teams were anything but. The Patriots haven’t scored more than 13 points since Week 2.

Houston is a coach’s dream and a bettor’s nightmare. The Texans let teams hang around and pick up the win, making it closer than it really should be. That might work for coach DeMeco Ryans just fine, but it isn’t a great way to make any money off Houston.
That’s especially true with an opponent like New England. The Patriots have a decent defense, but the offense barely gets things going most times. It’s clear that in the final few years of Bill Belichick, the Patriots were totally dependent on Tom Brady making weapons look good. Once that ended, the Patriots collapsed on that side of the ball.
