The Vikings, who finished 7-10 last season, carried over the momentum of their undefeated preseason into their new campaign, beating both the New York Giants 28-6 and the San Francisco 49ers 23-7 behind prolific numbers from quarterback Sam Darnold and rock-solid defence. Darnold has already covered 476 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions following back-to-back games of 200+ passing yards. Minnesota allowed the third-lowest points against (11.5) and the highest number of sacks per game (5.5) after week 2. The Texans continue to make big strides in the second year of quarterback CJ Stroud. Last year’s No.2 overall pick is on pace for another productive season after passing for 494 yards with 3 touchdowns in the first two games this season. I expect Stroud to have the same degree of resilience against the team that ranks first in sacks per game, but a better defensive effort will be required to pull off a win. This season, the Texans allow an average of 20.0 points per game, ranking 14th in the league. If they can only get that number down to 15-17, I believe Houston has a decent chance of winning and covering the spread.
