The Green Bay Packers (4-2 SU, 4-2 ATS) host the Houston Texans (5-1 SU, 2-3-1 ATS) in a game that’s essentially a proving ground for the Texans to show they can handle a hostile environment against a playoff team. The young Texans managed to win the AFC South last year, but they were not in Baltimore’s class and were easily dismissed in the playoffs.
They’ve won this year at Indianapolis and New England, but the Colts are a middling AFC side and the Patriots are a long way from contending. In their other road game against Minnesota, the Texans weren’t even close, losing 34-7 to the Vikings in a blowout from start to finish. They should be more competitive with Green Bay, but this remains a measuring stick for Houston.

Green Bay’s defense and how it handles C.J. Stroud will go a long way toward deciding this one. The Packers are a team that’s going to do what they do on offense; the question is whether the defense can hold up for long enough for them to win the game.
Green Bay’s run defense is pretty solid, but that’s not really how you beat the Texans. The way you keep Houston in check is by keeping C.J. Stroud from taking over the game and forcing him to make bad decisions. When the Vikings hammered Houston, they did it by intercepting Stroud twice and forcing the Texans to get more desperate than they wanted. The Packers’ secondary doesn’t seem good enough to do that. Our prediction for Houston vs. Green Bay is Texans +3.
