A key series will take place when the Astros and Rangers face off at Globe Life Field, significantly impacting the AL West and, therefore, the playoffs and the wild card race.

As of Thursday night, the Rangers were third in their division, five games behind the Astros, but a game and a half behind the Mariners' last wild card spot.

The Rangers have won seven of their last 10 games, and with elite pitching and a month of competition ahead, the Rangers could well dream of a comeback in their division, especially since they have six games left against the Astros and elite pitching.

The Rangers had their six-game winning streak snapped when they lost the last two games of their series in the desert against the D-backs, but in July they won their previous series against the Astros 2 games to 1.

While the Astros lost a playoff-caliber series against the Yankees on Thursday, the Rangers rested that same day.

Right-hander Merrill Kelly is already known; he will be the Rangers' pitcher on Friday. In each of his four starts in August, he consistently pitched six innings each time.
