The Houston Astros (58-55 SU, 57-56 ATS) face the Texas Rangers (54-60 SU, 50-64 ATS) in the rubber match of the teams’ three-game series in Arlington. The Rangers haven’t rolled over for their in-state rival, but it’s clear that they have given up on the season, even though the division is technically still possible for the World Series champions.
Texas enters having just three wins in its past 11 games, and it has lost three consecutive series. Getting back in the race might have worked if the Rangers had been able to beat the equally hopeless Blue Jays, but Toronto pounded Texas in that series and seemingly caused the Rangers to realize the inevitable. As such, Texas has just been kind of there.

Our Texas Rangers vs Houston Astros Prediction
Houston’s going to need to hit sooner or later. The Astros really haven’t been doing much at the plate, scoring three runs or less in six of their past nine games. The good news is that their bullpen should be very well rested after Framber Valdez came one out away from a complete game.
So far, Yusei Kikuchi is off to a good start with his new team. He came over from the Blue Jays after Toronto gave up on the season and immediately struck out 11 Rays on his way to a 3-2 win. He struggled in Toronto by his standards, but that could have more to do with having a poor team behind him. With Houston, he seems more at ease and doesn’t seem to feel the need to have to win the game himself. Given that the Rangers will throw a bullpen game, which doesn’t fit their strengths, our prediction for Houston vs. Texas is for the Astros to win.
