The Mariners didn't play bad baseball, but they definitely didn't have a good time in the San Francisco Bay Area in a series against the Giants, where they were swept. The Mariners have important pieces, but the lack of AVG on offense, which has been a problem since 2024, and the inability to coordinate good pitching and hitting often result in them losing games. The Astros, like in previous seasons, also started the 2025 season off to a slow start, especially in batting, where they're averaging just .203 AVG. The clash of low-AVG offenses resulted in Game 1 in a 7-hit contest between the two teams that ended 4-3 in favor of the Mariners, with Andrés Muñoz recording his 4th save.
