In Tuesday's Pirates-Astros game at PNC Park, Skenes had another masterful outing. The Pittsburgh ace pitched eight complete innings and allowed just one run, Walker's eighth home run of the season, which was also the first run of the game and gave the Astros a 0-1 lead. Ultimately, the Pirates once again wasted a Skenes outing. Skenes is one of the pitchers with the least offensive support this season, but he still lowered his ERA to below 2.00.
Tuesday's game ended 0-3 in another victory where the Astros' pitching dominated their opponents. This has been especially true in recent games, as in four of the Astros' last six wins, they've held opponents to fewer than three runs, but in both losses during that span, they were thrashed by the Rays.
The Pirates hitting what the Rays hit the Astros last week seems unlikely. After Tuesday's 3-0 win, Wednesday's pitching duel will be Gusto (4.62 ERA) for the Astros and Burrows (0-1, 8.64 ERA) for the Pirates.
