The Minnesota Twins (22-26, 14-13 Home) will try to make it three in a row at home today when they host the Houston Astros in Game Two of a three-game series. Game time is set for 7:40 p.m. EST at Target Field in Minneapolis, MN, with coverage provided by MLB.TV.
It wasn’t much of a challenge for the Twins in Game 1 as they got out to a 6-0 lead before the Astros were able to get on the board. Houston threatened to make the game interesting with three runs in the top of the seventh, but couldn’t get a hit in the eighth or ninth innings.
Zebby Matthews is scheduled to make just his second start of the season for the Twins today. he made his first against Miami last Thursday, pitching seven shutout innings and allowing just four hits. Houston will hope for the best from Lance McCullers Jr. McCullers Jr. is 2-3 in eight starts with a 6.86 ERA and a 1.53 WHIP. He has pitched better on the road despite his 7.53 ERA, going 1-0 in three starts while holding opponents to a .231 OBA. One of the seven home runs he has allowed came on the road.

This has just been an awful year for Houston so far. Their lineup has hit well at times, but their pitching has just been horrible. Injuries have hampered the rotation, but that doesn’t excuse the bullpen having the highest ERA in baseball (5.82). So, even if the Twins light up McCullers Jr., the bullpen will likely not be any better. If the Zebby Matthews from 2025 shows up (5.56 ERA), Houston might have an outside chance of making this one competitive. But even if that version appears, the Astros' lineup is hitting only .207 over the last week.
