Fresh off a resounding 10-0 win over the Houston Astros, the Detroit Tigers gun for another convincing win over the AL West’s No.1 team in Tuesday’s Game 2 at Comerica Park.
The Tigers showcased their might against the Astros in the battle between two division leaders. Averaging 5.9 runs per game in their last five games, Detroit more than doubled it with a 10-run outburst on Monday. The Tigers have also displayed outstanding pitching, especially by their starting pitcher Jack Flaherty, who held the Astros scoreless through seven innings while striking out nine batters. With the win, Detroit has tightened its grip on the top spot in the AL Central at 74-53, 8.5 games ahead of the 64-60 Cleveland Guardians.
The Astros, who are averaging 1.7 runs per game in their last five games, went scoreless for the third time in four weeks. Apart from the 0-10 beatdown they suffered against the Tigers, Houston had also absorbed two heavy losses against the Baltimore Orioles in Game 1 (0-7) and Game 3 (0-12). At 69-56, the Astros remain No.1 in the AL West, though they are clinging to a 1.5-game lead on their closest trailers, the 68-58 Seattle Mariners.
