The Houston Astros (7-19 SU, 9-17 ATS) meet the Colorado Rockies (7-19 SU, 12-14 ATS) in the Mexico City series, which lends itself to some highly inflated totals. The thin air in Mexico City means home runs should be much easier than even Denver, so if this trip doesn’t break the Astros out of their season-long funk, nothing will.
Houston, normally a strong-hitting team, comes off an ugly sweep at the hands of the Cubs. During that series in Chicago, the Astros managed a mere six runs. They’ve still managed to cash regular unders in this recent stretch, as the pitching has been relatively competent for the injuries they’ve been through. But the Astros remain highly wasteful, ranking fourth in batting average but 20th in runs.

Neither of these teams seem to be going anywhere fast. But while Colorado was expected to be horrible, the Astros were thought of as a contender. Those days appear to be behind this Houston squad, as it doesn’t take advantage of its chances and doesn’t have the pitching needed to push for the postseason.
However, this game won’t require pitching. This game is all about the hitting, and the Astros have a better lineup than the Rockies. The Astros can get men on base; they just have a hard time driving them home. In Mexico, long fly balls are likely to turn into home runs and outs are likely to become doubles. That favors the Astros, especially as the game progresses. Given that Houston has not won a one-run game all season, our prediction for Houston vs. Colorado is Astros -1.5.
