Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan will face Heather Watson of Great Britain in the second round of the 2025 HSBC Championship on Thursday.
Rybakina will begin her preparation for the Wimbledon Open at the HSBC Championship. After going through a bumpy clay-court season, Rybakina storms into the grass-court season as one of the top contenders because of her reputation as a former Wimbledon Open champion and an outstanding 75 percent win rate (33-11) on the surface.
Watson is riding a three-match win streak ahead of her upcoming clash with Rybakina. The Brit defeated Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan 6-4 6-3 to move into the next round of the WTA 250 tournament. Watson had also eliminated Ena Shibahara of the United States 6-1, 5-7, 6-4 and Seynep Sonmez 6-0, 6-3 to qualify for the main draw of this tournament.

Our Heather Watson vs Elena Rybakina Prediction
Why you should bet on Heather Watson to cover +5.5 games: Elena Rybakina is a strong pick to win outright in this match, but I don’t think she will win by a margin as wide as 5 games given that this is her first grass court match in years and Watson has been on a tear in her last three matches on the surface. As formidable of a player as Rybakina is, I still expect her to go through a handful of early-round hiccups before shaping up into a Grand Slam form in time for the Wimbledon Open. Don’t get me wrong. I believe Rybakina will win in straight sets, but I feel that Watson has been playing really good tennis in her past three matches, and she has gained enough momentum to give Rybakina a tough outing on Thursday.
