Ukraine (4-2) takes on Greece (3-3) for a FIBA World Cup Qualifying game on Friday, August 28, at Xiaomi Arena in Riga, Latvia.
Their last matchup was back in the 2022 FIBA EuroBasket, when Greece came out on top, 99-79. Giannis Antetokounmpo dominated the paint, finishing with a game-high 41 points on 72.2% shooting.
However, the Greek squad won't have the offensive dominance of Giannis on Friday. They still have a talented team that's led by the likes of Kostas Antetokounmpo, Thanasis Antetokounmpo, Nick Calathes, Tyler Dorsey, and Kostas Papanikolaou.
Along with Giannis's absence, Greece also doesn't have momentum on their side. They're coming off back-to-back losses in July, most recently a 71-56 defeat at the hands of Portugal.
Meanwhile, Ukraine impressed in the last window. They had two double-digit wins in July, including a convincing 99-69 victory over Denmark. Their defense held Denmark to only 33.3% shooting. Svi Mykhailiuk led the way for Ukraine with 30 points built on six makes from the three-point line.
Mykhailiuk, who plays for the Utah Jazz, will also suit up on Friday, giving the Ukrainians an offensive boost. Their other two double-digit scorers, Oleksandr Kovliar and Viacheslav Bobrov, will also reinforce the team.
