The Golden State Warriors visit the Los Angeles Lakers in an NBA 2025-26 game on Tuesday, October 21, at the Crypto.com Arena.
Two Western Conference contenders go at it on opening night, with the Lakers hosting Stephen Curry and the Warriors. However, the purple-and-gold will be shorthanded heading into this matchup against their conference rivals.
LeBron James, who is entering his 23rd season in the NBA, is currently sidelined with sciatica on his right side. The four-time MVP averaged 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists last season, while logging 34.9 minutes, his lowest in the last four years.
It means that Lakers head coach JJ Redick might field a starting five of Luka Doncic, Gabe Vincent, Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura, and Deandre Ayton. Veteran guard Marcus Smart is another new face who could log significant minutes.
Meanwhile, the Warriors also reeled in an important veteran presence in Al Horford. There's no certainty yet on who Steve Kerr will start, but signs point to Horford joining Curry, Jimmy Butler, Draymond Green, and either Brandin Podziemski or Jonathan Kuminga.
Moses Moody was expected to be in that starting five, but he sustained a calf injury that will keep him out for the Lakers game.
