The Dallas Wings will attempt to snap a lengthy skid as they face the expansion Golden State Valkyries. It has been a difficult stretch for Dallas, who at 9–27 have already been eliminated from playoff contention. The Wings have lost three games in a row and eight of their last nine overall. Many of those defeats have been close calls – including a heart-breaking 81-80 loss in their most recent game – but Dallas has consistently struggled to close out games.

Defensive lapses and turnovers in crunch time have cost them leads, and their home form has suffered as a result (they are enduring a multi-game home losing streak). The morale in the Wings’ camp is undoubtedly tested, but they will be eager to play spoiler and end the season on a positive note. On the other side, the Golden State Valkyries have had a solid inaugural season. The WNBA’s newest franchise sits at 18–17, fighting to secure a playoff spot in the Western Conference.

The Valkyries have dropped their last two contests, but those came against strong opponents, and they remain a competitive unit. Golden State has shown flashes of excellent defense and hustle – they recently held a high-scoring Phoenix team to a manageable total despite a loss – and they tend to play hard on the road. Coming into this matchup, the Valkyries will see an opportunity to get back on track against a struggling Wings squad.
