Both teams are coming off a tough week. Golden State did not lose their last game; they beat the Dallas Wings 86-76. However, they lost their leading scorer to a season-ending knee injury earlier in the week. As for the Sun, a tough season continued with their latest loss, 101-86 at the hands of the LA Sparks. It was their fourth consecutive loss and the 20th of the season.
Golden State has been a pleasant surprise this season and could become the first WNBA expansion team to make the playoffs in their inaugural season, a task now made harder with the loss of Thornton. However, the team has talent. The question now is who will step up and fill the void left by Thornton’s absence. For some odd reason, Connecticut decided to go into rebuild mode this season. They have struggled on both ends of the court throughout the season, ranking last in scoring (73.3) and points allowed (88.5).
