Team USA will complete the preliminary round at the 2026 Olympic men’s ice hockey tournament with a clash against Germany on Sunday at the PalaItalia Santa Giulia in Milan.
Mike Sullivan’s team opened the tournament with two big wins and is expected to seal first place in Group C on Sunday. Germany also has a chance to finish first, but Leon Draisaitl’s crew must beat the U.S. and needs Denmark to put up a fight against Latvia and not lose in regulation.
The Americans have been sloppy at times in Milan and even lost the first period 2-1 to Denmark on Saturday, but they are very difficult to contain when they are on their game. After two matchups, eight U.S. skaters have already earned multiple points in the tournament. Jack Eichel leads the team with four points (one goal, three assists).
Germany’s offense has also clicked well at the Olympics, but defensive shortcomings led to a 4-3 loss to Latvia on Saturday. Harold Kreis’ side got careless after earning a 2-1 first-period lead. However, it might work in the team’s favor, as the Germans now know they must focus 100 percent of the time in every game to succeed in the tournament.
