With one year to go before hosting the World Championships, Germany is unsurprisingly showing that it will be a force to be reckoned with in front of its home crowd. The Olympic silver medalists have brilliantly qualified for the semifinals of the 2026 European Handball Championships, emerging from a grueling main round to reach the final four of the competition. Although the Mannschaft bit the dust against the host country, Denmark (26-31), this will remain the only defeat for Alfred Gislason's players in this second phase. After defeating Portugal (32-30), Norway (30-28) and, France on Wednesday in a decisive match (38-34), Germany has established itself as one of the favorites to win the competition. Back in the final four of a European Championship for the first time in 10 years, the Mannschaft has no intention of missing out on Friday's match.
After a string of disappointing performances in recent competitions, Croatia is back to its former glory. The Croatians have indeed taken advantage of an open draw to reach the final four of Euro 2026. Dagur Sigurdsson's men have suffered only one defeat in the competition, which came in the first round against Sweden on home turf. Since then, Ivan Martinovic's teammates have been flawless, winning all four of their main round matches against Iceland (30-29), Switzerland (28-24), Slovenia (29-25), and Hungary (27-25), finishing in first place.
