Finland takes on Georgia for a EuroBasket 2025 quarterfinals matchup on Wednesday, September 10, at the Arena Riga in Latvia.
During the 2025 EuroBasket Qualifiers, Georgia defeated Finland twice by an average margin of 12 points. But of course, this is a different scenario, especially with Finnish star Lauri Markkanen playing.
Finland is fresh off an upset 92-86 win over Serbia. Markkanen led the charge with a team-high 29 points, while also adding eight rebounds, three assists, and four steals. Mikael Jantunen, Miro Little, and Elias Valtonen were the other double-digit scorers for the team.
Most importantly, Finland showed everyone that they have what it takes to beat a powerhouse squad like Serbia. They managed to overcome an efficient 33-point outing from Serbian star Nikola Jokic.
Speaking of upset wins, Georgia is no stranger to it. They are coming off a monumental 80-70 win over France. They led almost the entirety of the game, setting the tone right from the start.
Tornike Shengalia and Kamar Baldwin led the Georgians with 24 points apiece. San Antonio Spurs forward Alexander Mamukelashvili put up a double-double of 14 points and 11 boards. Goga Bitadze only had eight points, but had crucial defensive stops in the fourth quarter.
