After surviving a five-set thriller in the first round, Gael Monfils of France will go head-to-head with one of the tour’s rising stars, Jack Draper of Great Britain, on Thursday in the round-of-64 of the 2025 French Open.
Monfils captured another win in a Grand Slam stage, outgunning Hugo Dellien of Bolivia 4-6 3-6 6-1 7-6(4) 6-1. Monfils, who is making his 18th appearance at Roland Garros, banked on his experience to pull off an improbable comeback win after trailing 0-2 set.
Draper overcame a shaky start to beat Mattia Bellucci in four sets 3-6 6-1 6-4 6-2. After dropping the first set, Draper raised up the level of his play in the succeeding sets to put his Italian foe for good. The Brit finished the match with 11 aces, 51 first-serve points, and six breakpoint conversions.
