The clay-court ATP event in Rio continues on Thursday. One of the more interesting matches is the one between Francisco Cerundolo and Luciano Darderi. The Argentine, playing in his native South America, is the early favorite for this clash, but is he a little too short?
Sure, Francisco Cerundolo has been in good form of late, playing well in his own country last week, where he reached the final, finishing as the runner-up. He built on that effort with a straight-set success against Gaston during the first round of this tournament, and will now be looking to shift through the gears and kick on. However, we shouldn't simply assume that he'll get the job done.
Luciano Darderi can be a very good clay-court player on his day, there's no doubting that. The Italian hass dropped in the rankings in recent times, but the clay season is definitely where he comes good, while he's beaten Cerundolo on this surface before, coming out on top when the pair met in Houston last season.
