The first quarter-final of the 2026 World Cup will take place on Thursday, when France and Morocco clash in Boston, Massachusetts. Can the 2018 winners continue their march towards a third World Cup success?
It wasn’t as glamorous as some of their other wins, but Les Bleus got the job done during the Round-of-16, showing that they can indeed grind out wins when teams refuse to open up and look to make it an ugly game. Didier Deschamps' men have proved that they’re versatile, while they have so much offensive quality that they’ll usually find a way to break through, so even though the Moroccans have made a name for themselves as being hard to beat, we should not be shocked if the French do plenty of damage here.
Even at odds of -142, the French look generously priced to score multiple goals. The Atlas Lions are strong, but do they really have the defensive strength to stop the best offense in the world? Likely not, and given everything we’ve seen so far, Deschamps’ men should be priced at shorter odds to score at least two goals.

France - Morocco: Form Analysis
No team has impressed quite like France has at this World Cup. Didier Deschamps' men have won five out of five in regulation time, scoring 14 goals in the process. They’ve dominated all five of their games, showing a quite frightening level of offensive play, which tells us that they should have what it takes to hurt a Moroccan team that probably hasn’t been as impressive as some results would have us believe.

This Morocco team has quickly become known as the best African team of all time, and it’s pretty tough to argue with that. The Atlas Lions are very good in possession, they have some creative players, while they’re organized and clearly all playing for each other. We saw how capable these players are against the Brazilians during the first round of group games, while they showed lots of fight to overcome adversity against the Dutch, before delivering a clinical counter-offensive effort against Canada. This, however, is a much tougher task.

France & Morocco Squad Analysis
Didier Deschamps won’t be looking to change much, and we should see the same defensive set-up for the French, while the midfield isn’t expected to change either. However, the man who has already won the World Cup as both a player and a manager, Deschamps does have an interesting decision to make in offense. Bradley Barcola has been the preferred option on the left, but he struggled to make a huge impact against Paraguay. Desire Doue changed the game from the bench and could now feature in the starting XI for the first time since the first round of group games.
The man who recently signed for Bayern is not expected to feature here. Soufiane Rahimi, who scored as a sub against Canada, will deputize.
Moroccan head coach Mohamed Ouahbi also won’t want to make several changes, and he too is expected to set his team up much as he did against Canada. Unfortunately, Ismail Saibari, who has arguably been the best player for the Atlas Lions at this tournament, was forced off with an injury last time out. The man who recently signed for Bayern is not expected to feature here. Soufiane Rahimi, who scored as a sub against Canada, will deputize.

Our France vs Morocco Prediction
The fact that the French failed to score multiple goals against Paraguay is probably why they’re priced at -142 to net twice here, but let’s be honest, the early odds look to be based on an overreaction to that result. Sure, they didn’t score twice, but they created plenty, while they’ve now scored 14 goals in five games at this World Cup.
The Moroccans have not looked overly secure at the back, despite what some of their results would suggest, so much so that it’s impossible not to conclude that odds of -142 offer value for money.
Our France vs Morocco Pick: France to Score Over 1.5 Goals.
