The Florida Panthers will hope to break out of a slump on Thursday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena.
After winning the Stanley Cup in back-to-back years, the 2025-26 campaign has been a disappointment for the Panthers, as it’s starting to look likely that Paul Maurice’s team won’t make it back into the postseason.
With a record of 30-28-3, Florida has fallen to the bottom of the Atlantic Division, 10 points adrift from the last wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. The team is on a horrible 2-8-0 run and massively struggled even against fellow strugglers, the New Jersey Devils, on Tuesday, losing 5-1.
Columbus is sitting just outside the playoff spots in the East and can feel good about their chances of extending the season. The Jackets have been among the best teams in the league since Rick Bowness took over as head coach in January, and their most recent wins have been particularly impressive.
Even though Zach Werenski has been out sick, Columbus beat both the New York Rangers and Nashville Predators this week, scoring eight goals. Werenski plays a vital role for the team, but the squad has proven that they can cope without him, which should be a big boost in confidence for everybody involved.
