Brazilian club Flamengo, three-time winner of the Copa Libertadores (1981, 2019, 2022), has lifted the trophy twice in the last six editions. Leading Serie A Betano ahead of Palmeiras and Cruzeiro, Flamengo has won seven of its last eight games in all competitions. Filipe Luis's players have just taken 13 points out of a possible 15 in the league against Mirassol (2-1), away to Internacional (1-3), against Vitoria (8-0), at home to Gremio (1-1) and away to Juventude (0-2) this weekend. Flamengo's key player, Uruguayan midfielder Giorgian de Arrascaeta, has been decisive in his last seven appearances for the club, scoring five goals and providing five assists. In this Copa Libertadores, the Serie A Betano leaders are on a run of four consecutive wins against LDU Quito (2-0), Dep. Tachira (1-0) and Internacional (1-0 and 0-2) in the round of 16.
The Argentine club Estudiantes enjoyed its heyday in the Copa Libertadores in the late 1960s, winning three consecutive titles in 1968, 1969, and 1970, followed by a fourth title 39 years after the last. In the Torneo Betano championship, Estudiantes is in seventh place (out of 15) in Group A with a balanced record of four wins and four losses. Eduardo Dominguez's team has lost three of its last four league games, to Bandfield (3-2), Central Cordoba (2-0), and River Plate (1-2) on Sunday. In this Copa Libertadores, Estudiantes has already played a Brazilian club, Botafogo RJ, posting one win at home (1-0) and one loss away (3-2), the second in this competition after the missed reception of U.de Chile (1-2). Estudiantes struggled to get past Cerro Porteno in the round of 16 (0-1 and 0-0), thanks to the only goal scorer in this double confrontation, Ascacibar, with a successful penalty in added time (90th+8).

Our Flamengo vs Estudiantes de La Plata Prediction
Very fortunate in the round of 16 against Paraguayan club Cerro Porteno (0-1 and 0-0), Estudiantes, who are not among the frontrunners in the Argentine league, could face disappointment in this doubleheader against Brazilian league leaders Flamengo. The leaders of Serie A Betano could secure a fourth consecutive home win in the Copa Libertadores after victories against LDU Quito (2-0), Dep. Tachira (1-0) and Internacional (1-0). Flamengo should take a big step towards the semi-finals after this quarter-final first leg in the heated atmosphere of the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro in front of more than 78,000 people.
Our prediction for Flamengo vs Estudiantes de la Plata: Flamengo to win and over 1.5 goals in the match!
