Slovakia and Finland will battle it out for the bronze medal in the Olympic men’s ice hockey tournament on Saturday at PalaItalia Santa Giulia in Milan.
This will be the second time these teams meet in Milan, after already facing each other in the preliminary round. On opening day, Slovakia surprised many by beating Finland 4-1.
Juraj Slafkovsky had an outstanding performance against Finland in the first meeting, scoring two goals and recording one assist. For Slovakia to secure a second straight Olympic bronze in the men’s ice hockey tournament, the Montreal Canadiens youngster must perform at a high level again.
Finland had a rough start to the tournament with a big loss, but it proved to be just an off day. Antti Pennanen’s team simply couldn’t get past Samuel Hlavaj in Slovakia’s net, losing heavily even though they outshot the opponents 40-25.
A bounce-back performance against Sweden in their second outing gave the Leijonat a lot of momentum, and they came very close to beating Team Canada in the semifinals. Friday’s heartbreaking 3-2 loss will sting, but Mikko Rantanen and his crew are sure to be determined to secure at least a bronze-medal finish in Milan.

Our Slovakia vs Finland Prediction
Slovakia was run over by Team USA on Friday, but Vladimir Orszagh’s side showed some signs of life late in the game. They even won the third period 2-1, with Slafkovsky scoring his fourth goal of the tournament.
After also shining in Beijing four years ago, Slafkovsky boasts 11 goals and 15 points in 12 career Olympic outings. He has already put two pucks past Team Finland in Milan, and Slovakia will be relying on him to make an impact again on Saturday.
Our prediction for Slovakia vs. Finland: J. Slafkovsky to score anytime.
