FC Cincinnati hosts Nashville SC, and both enter this match going in need of a salve. Based only on the standings, both teams are in good shape, as Cincinnati sits in second place in the Eastern Conference and Nashville is just two points behind. But the Orange and Blue come in having failed to put home a goal in four of their past five matches, which has just about erased any chance to catch Philadelphia for first.
What Cincinnati would love to see is a return to what it showed in Portland. In that match, Cincinnati scored 10 minutes in and was able to stay on the front foot the entire match. In three of Cincinnati’s past four wins, the first goal came before the half-hour mark, which demonstrates how important playing with a lead is to Pat Noonan’s side. When Cincinnati finds a goal early, it’s tough to beat; when it doesn’t, it can become unglued and start pressing.
