The Thomas Tuchel era at major tournaments is soon to begin for the Three Lions of England, who will begin their 2026 World Cup preparations with a game against New Zealand on Saturday afternoon. The teams will clash at Raymond James Stadium, where both will get the opportunity to get used to the tournament conditions, For the English, this is a first warm-up game and a first friendly since that disappointing defeat against the Japanese back in March. 

New Zealand's World Cup prep got underway just a few days ago, and it wasn't a fruitful outing for Darren Bazeley's men, who received a hammering from Haiti. After that disaster, the All Whites will be looking to take a defensive approach. Given that the New Zealand boys will be searching for defensive security, we can assume that they'll get men behind the ball in attempt to frustrate the English, so betting on Thomas Tuchel's men to get the job done in relatively low-scoring fashion appears to be the best betting route.

Following New Zealand's hefty defeat against Haiti, lots of people may be expecting the Three Lions to tear their prey to shreds here, but if we dig beneath the surface a little, it's worth betting on the Thomas Tuchel's men to win without going too crazy in terms of goals. First and foremost, the New Zealanders will be keen to tighten up and they're not going to open up and get on the front foot here. 

In games against deep-lying teams, the English have often struggled to hit top gear offensively. Sure, they invariably win games of this nature, but they don't always score loads, scoring no more than two goals in any of their last four games, scoring more than three goals in just two of their last 12.
