Eintracht Frankfurt approaches the Champions League opening at Galatasaray in fine form in the Bundesliga. The side opened the new German season with two successive home victories (4-1 vs Bremen and 3-1 vs Hoffenheim) to show an attacking flair. Their form dipped once in five Bundesliga encounters, in a 3-1 loss at Bayer Leverkusen on Sept 12, but by then the side held a high ranking in the table.
The team has looked formidable in possession and on transitions. Under new management, they have brought over much of their previous-season success and added depth in midfield. Frankfurt reached the group stage by playing strongly in friend and league games; their only slip was giving up points on the road, but at home, they have been tough to beat.
Galatasaray arrives in even finer pre-game condition in Turkey. Untouched in the domestic league so far, having beaten comfortably 3-0 at home to Karagümrük, 4-0 at Kayserispor and 3-1 at home to Rizespor, and 2-0 at Eyüpspor.
The Turkish champions are leaders in the Süper Lig after four games, scoring 12 times and conceding only 1. The attack is vibrant, and left winger Eren Elmali scored doubles in recent weeks and Argentinian forward Mauro Icardi is one of the tops in goals scored. Galatasaray bullied weaker opponents and even defeated opponents at home and seemed confident. Defensively, as well, they have been solid. Individually, the two clubs are in great form: Eintracht's form in a harder league is impressive, and Galatasaray is thriving in theirs.
