Following a single day off for Christmas, the African Cup of Nations is back on our screens on Friday, when one of four games sees Egypt and South Africa lock horns in the city of Agadir, famous for its crescent coastline. This is a game between the two Group B teams that were victorious during the first round of games, with the Egyptians coming from behind to get the better of Zimbabwe, courtesy of a stoppage-time winner from the ever reliable Mohamed Salah. The South Africans got the job done against Angola, with English Premier League forward Lyle Foster smashing home the winner from outside of the box 15 minutes from time.
Both the Egyptians and the South Africans should be feeling upbeat ahead of this contest at Stade Adrar, so we should see a lively game. When the pair last faced each other, earlier in 2025, it was Bafana Bafana that came out on top, winning by three goals to one. Can the Pharaohs take revenge for that rather embarrassing defeat? Or will the South Africans continue to go unbeaten in this fixture under the reign of Hugo Broos?

Egypt - South Africa: Form Analysis
For a little while on gameday one, it looked as if the Pharaohs would be stunned by the Warriors of Zimbabwe. Hossam Hassan’s men were on top throughout, but they were struggling to make the breakthrough, despite enjoying almost all of the possession against their smash-and-grab-attempting opponents. Fortunately, Premier League stars Omar Marmoush and Mohamed Salah came to the rescue in the second half. The job for now the Pharaohs is to kick on and deliver the offensive goods a little earlier in the game.
The job now for the Pharaohs is to kick on and deliver the offensive goods a little earlier in the game.
For the South Africans, the opening game went well, especially offensively, with Bafana, Bafana taking a front-footed approach. Broos’ men repeatedly looked to get the ball forward with purpose, right from the word go, an approach that paid dividends when Oswin Appollis netted in the 21st minute of the game. Unfortunately, at the back, they looked shaky, conceding several chances, which doesn’t exactly bode well given that they’re about to go up against some very capable forwards.

Egypt & South Africa Squad Analysis
The Egyptians are expected to line up much as they did against Zimbabwe, though there could be one offensive change made by Hossam Hassan, who will likely be keen for Mostafa Mohamed to feature from the start. The man who plays his club soccer in Ligue 1 for Nantes came off the bench to set up the game-winning goal against Zimbabwe and has thus earned his place in the starting XI.
Tshepang Moremi made a very positive impact off the bench last time out, assisting Foster for the winning goal, so he could now feature from the outset.
It would be a surprise if Hugo Broos made several changes to the Bafana Bafana side that beat Angola during the first round of group games. Lyle Foster played with a confidence that suggests he means business at this tournament, so the Burnley man is likely to remain up top, while Oswin Appollis will once again be a main source of creativity off the left. Tshepang Moremi made a very positive impact off the bench last time out, assisting Foster for the winning goal, so he could now feature from the outset.

Our Egypt vs South Africa Prediction
Quite simply, Lyle Foster looks very leniently priced to register a shot on target in Agadir. The South African forward looked in hot form against Angola, getting himself into some fantastic shooting positions, scoring a fine goal. He'll be hugely confident following that display, and with his team looking good on the break, the main man for Bafana Bafana really should be priced less generously to test the Egpytian keeper.
Our Egypt vs South Africa Pick: Lyle Foster 1+ Shots on Target.
