by Bradley Gibbs in AFCON Picks
The last of the African Cup of Nations quarter finals takes place on Friday, when Egypt and Ivory Coast lock horns at Stade Adrar in the Moroccan city of Agadir. This is arguably the toughest of the quarter-finals to call, with both teams looking strong. The Egyptians showed lots of grit and determination during the groups, while they needed to dig deep to overcome Benin during the Round of 16, eventually winning after extra time, showing that they’re a side that doesn’t give up, a side that can come up with big moments when it matters most.
The Ivorians played with an air of superiority during the groups, doing what was required to make it through as group winners without overexerting themselves. It was clear to see that they’d left plenty in the tank during the Round of 16, when the Elephants shifted through the gears to beat Burkina Faso by three goals to zero, scoring some fine goals. After that commanding performance, the current holders of this prestigious prize should fancy themselves to make life very difficult for the Pharaohs.

Egypt against Côte d'Ivoire : Head to Head (H2H)
Jan 26, 2022 - AFCON
Egypt - Côte d'Ivoire: Form Analysis
Throughout the tournament so far, the Egyptians have performed like a team that knows how to grind out results. They’ve not been the most eye-catching, while they haven’t blown their opponents away, but they’ve not been the easiest to break down, plus they’ve typically done a good job of nullifying opponents. Moreover, with Mo Salah and Omar Marmoush, they have star-quality in the forward areas.
Against teams that are willing to come out and play, Emerse Faé’s men can be deadly on the counter
The Ivorians have also been difficult to beat, but they are clearly a side that is more about explosive, offensive quality. Manchester United’s Amad Diallo has pulled the strings so far, and with players like Wilfried Zaha, Yan Diomande and Bazoumana Traore, the Elephants are very threatening in the final third. They are also deadly on the break, boasting no shortage of pace and power. Against teams that are willing to come out and play, Emerse Faé’s men can be deadly on the counter.

Egypt & Côte d'Ivoire Squad Analysis
The Egyptians could be without Mohamed Hamdi, who reportedly picked up a minor injury against Benin last time out. In addition, former Aston Villa player Trezeguet may also miss out having sustained a knock against Benin too. Fortunately, the Pharaohs have no other personnel concerns. Mo Salah and Omar Marmoush are expected to continue up top.
Following what was an excellent display last time out, Emerse Faé is expected to name the same starting XI.
Sebastian Haller is not yet expected to return to the Ivorian set-up, while there are also serious doubts over the fitness of Udinese forward Vakoun Bayo, who has not featured since sustaining an injury against Cameroon during the second round of group games. Following what was an excellent display last time out, Emerse Faé is expected to name the same starting XI.

Our Egypt vs Côte d'Ivoire Prediction
I just cannot see how Amad Diallo is priced at -120 to register a shot on target here. Few players have threatened the opposition goal more than Diallo in Morocco, while let's face it, the Egyptians are likely to sit back more than the Ivorians, so it's far from difficult to envisage the Man United forward getting on the ball and pulling the trigger in dangerous areas.
Far from shy to shoot, Diallo looked very, very hungry against Burkina Faso, often picking the ball up inside the opponents half, before driving at the defense and firing off shots. He's taken 15 shots in four games so far and will absolutely be keen for more here.
Our Egypt vs Ivory Coast Pick: Amad Diallo 1+ Shots on Target.
