The Edmonton Oilers will attempt to pile more misery on the slumping San Jose Sharks on Saturday at SAP Center.
San Jose suffered four straight defeats before the Olympic break and couldn’t get back on track when play resumed earlier this week. On Thursday night, the Calgary Flames skated away from SAP Center with a 4-1 victory. The Sharks opened the scoring in the second period but were overwhelmed by the visitors in the third.
Macklin Celebrini and his squad are now in danger of losing six games in a row for the first time since their first few outings of the season. The Sharks have drawn praise for their improved performance in 2025-26, but the young team now has to show character. If they can’t end the skid soon, they will once again be on the outside looking in come playoff time.
The Oilers have already played twice since the Olympic break ended, losing 6-5 to the Anaheim Ducks but rocking the Los Angeles Kings with an 8-1 victory. Leon Draisaitl had a four-point night (one goal, three assists) on Thursday, while Connor McDavid reached 100 points for the sixth time in his career with a goal and an assist.
