The Edmonton Oilers (58-30-7 SU, 42-53 ATS) attempt to take both of the games in Dallas when they play Game 2 of the Western Conference finals against the Stars (60-25-11 SU, 42-54 ATS). The Stars have to feel like they gave away an opportunity in the series opener, as they lost in overtime despite getting five power plays compared to just one for Edmonton.
Even worse was the fact that Dallas spent nearly four minutes up a man with Connor McDavid being the player in the penalty box, yet still couldn’t cash in. McDavid then twisted the knife by being the one to score the winning goal, ending a streak which saw him go six games without a goal. The Oil now have a golden opportunity to go up 2-0, a deficit the Stars have overcome before but really don’t want to face a second time.

Edmonton’s penalty kill came up huge again in Game 1. The Oilers have killed off 19 consecutive penalties and have not allowed a power play goal since Game 3 of the Vancouver series. However, Edmonton cannot keep playing with fire against an opponent as explosive as Dallas. The Stars have been at their best when backed into a corner, and the Oilers must play more disciplined to continue to have success.
Dallas has been behind in every series it’s played this postseason, and even falling behind 2-0 didn’t faze the Stars when they did it against Vegas. This is a veteran group that knows how to handle this pressure. They have the better goaltending and they should be primed to bounce back and force a split as the teams head to Canada. The Stars also have the edge in five-on-five hockey, so our prediction for Edmonton vs. Dallas is for the Stars to win.
