After ending a five-game slide with an impressive comeback victory over the weekend, the Buffalo Sabres hope to start a winning streak on Monday night at the KeyBank Center against the Edmonton Oilers.
In Saturday's matchup against the Detroit Red Wings, the Sabres found themselves in a three-goal hole midway through the second period, but escaped Motown with a 5-4 overtime victory. Lindy Ruff's men celebrated a win for only the sixth time this season, improving their record to 6-8-4.
The Sabres have missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 14 consecutive seasons and already face an uphill battle to make it in 2026. However, Monday's victory over a team that has reached the Finals for two consecutive years could give the team a much-needed morale boost and momentum.
Edmonton also recorded an overtime win on Saturday, taking down the Carolina Hurricanes 4-3, with Connor McDavid leading the way. The Oilers captain extended his point streak to eight games, finishing with two goals and one assist.
All four of Kris Knoblauch's team's last victories have come in overtime, showing that this Oilers side has excellent character. However, it also suggests that the team currently lacks the quality to finish games within 60 minutes.
