The Seattle Mariners (56-59, 33-25 Home) will go for the series win today when they play the Detroit Tigers (55-59, 25-32 Away) in the third game of a three-game series. First Pitch at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, WA, is scheduled for 4:10 p.m. EST with coverage provided by MLB.TV.
Detroit won the first game of the series with ease on Tuesday, beating the Mariners 8-0. But in Game Two yesterday, it was Seattle starter Bryan Woo who dominated the Tigers lineup, holding them scoreless for seven innings en route to a 4-2 Mariners victory.
Bryce Miller is scheduled to get the start for Seattle. Miller is 4-5 this season in 13 appearances (12 starts) with a 2.80 ERA and a 0.92 WHIP. He has done some of his best work at home, where he is 1-2 in six starts with a 1.34 ER and a .147 OBA.
As for the Tigers, Detroit is scheduled to go with Framber Valdez. He has gone 6-7 this season in 22 starts with a 4.41 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP. Valdez is 2-4 on the road in 12 starts with a 4.68 ERA and a .275 OBA.

From a pitching perspective, it would seem that the Mariners have a distinct edge. Miller has impressive numbers in general, but they are even better at home. However, he has allowed 13 runs in his last four starts, raising his ERA by over a full point, from 1.71 to 2.80. Now, that is still pretty good, but it shows he’s been vulnerable in recent games. Against a team hitting .310 over the last week and generating 42 runs in five games, he could be in trouble. Since he is not likely to get a ton of support from his lineup (which has hit .206 over the last week, it may take only a couple of runs for the Tigers to steal a win.
