The Tigers survived their second elimination game in these playoffs, winning 9-3 at Comerica Park against the Mariners to even the series at two games apiece. The series will return for the final game, which will be played again in Seattle, but fortunately for the Tigers, the best pitcher of the last two years will be pitching: Tarik Skubal. Skubal, despite the odds, has had an even better playoff series than his already elite regular-season performances.

The Tigers' offense picked up at just the right time on Wednesday in Detroit; scoring a run in the 2nd, 4th, and 5th innings, the Mariners took a 0-3 lead midway through the game. Dingler ignited the Tigers with a run-scoring double, followed by one from Jones, and an RBI single from Báez, who went 2-for-4, temporarily tying Game 4 of the series at 3-3.

The Tigers hit home runs in the bottom of the sixth inning; Greene hit one, McKinstry scored an RBI single, and Báez proved his value at this point in the season with a two-run home run, securing Game 4 for the Mariners. Venezuelan Gleyber Torres also hit an opposite-field home run, while the Mariners didn't homer and struck out 10 times.
