The first game of the Tigers-Mariners divisional playoff series was undoubtedly the most exciting of the four games played on Saturday. It was the closest from start to finish, but the Mariners lost it in extra innings, 2-3.

The pitching duel between Melton for the Tigers and Kirby for the Mariners seemed to be playing out in Seattle's favor. Things started well for the home team when Julio Rodríguez hit a solo home run in the 4th inning that blew up T-Mobile Park, but in the following inning, Carpenter took advantage of a pitch that stayed in the power zone and homered with Meadows on board, giving the Tigers the lead.

J. Rod also drove in the tying run, with a single that brought in Arozarena. The game went into extra innings, in the 11th inning, and was a showdown between two of the best bullpens in the MLB.

For the Tigers, Hurter, R. Montero, Holton, Kahnle, Finnegan, Vest, and K. Montero combined out of the bullpen to pitch seven innings of one-run ball, with Vest pitching two and K. Montero recording the save by recording the final three outs. McKinstry drove in the go-ahead run for the Tigers with a single that went up the middle; it's a series that's getting tremendously complicated for the Mariners, given that Skubal is pitching on Sunday.
