San Diego Padres vs Detroit Tigers Prediction & Picks - MLB

The Detroit Tigers (70-68) head to PETCO Park this afternoon to take on the hosting San Diego Padres (78-61) for a 3-game set. The Tigers had a strong finish to the month of August as they won 7 of their last 9 games. The Padres were not as lucky as they lost 3 of their last 4 to wrap up the month. The Tigers are coming off a 4-1 win over the Red Sox on Sunday. Brant Hurter picked up the win after coming in for 5 innings after Beau Brieske lasted just 1.1 innings. Hurter allowed just 1 run on 6 hits and struck out 5 while walking no one. Both Riley Greene and Spencer Torkelson homered in the win for the Tigers. The Padres are also coming off a win. They defeated the Rays on Sunday 4-3. Tied at 3 heading into the 9th, Xander Bogaerts hit a sacrifice fly that scored Tyler Wade to take the lead. Robert Suarez came in to get the save. Dylan Cease pitched well enough for the win and rookie; Jackson Merrill blasted his 21st home run. Tonight, Joe Musgrove (4-4, 4.44) is likely to get the start for the Padres. While Musgrove does not have the best ERA, he has pitched well over his last 6 starts. He has allowed just 6 runs over those 30 innings and has a 1-0 record during that stretch. Granted, his latest start was against the Cardinals where he allowed 3 runs on 7 hits in 6 innings but it was still good enough to keep the Padres in the game as they lost on a walk-off in the 9th. The Tigers have still not announced their starter for tonight but Mason Englert did start the last time this spot in the rotation was up.
