The Pittsburgh Pirates (62-66, 33-32 Home) will go for the series win today at PNC Park when they host the Detroit Tigers (61-65, 29-34 Away) in the third game of a three-game series. Fans can watch the action on MLB.TV when the game gets underway at 12:35 p.m. EST.
The Tigers won Game One of the series on Monday, 8-5, after getting out to an early 5-1 lead after five. But the home team Pirates were able to bounce back on Tuesday behind an eight-inning, five-hit, one-run game from pitcher Braxton Ashcroft.
Pittsburgh is scheduled to give Paul Skenes the start. Skenes is 9-11 with a 3.88 ERA in 25 starts with a 1.12 WHIP. Teams have been hitting .228 against him this year. At home, he has gone 5-5 in 13 starts with a 3.44 ERA and a .215 OBA.
Detroit is expected to give Jackson Jobe another turn in the rotation. The youngster is 1-1 in two starts with a 6.23 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP. He struggled in his last outing (last Friday). Chicago (White Sox) chased him after 3 2/3 innings, tagging him with nine hits (two home runs), six earned runs, and four strikeouts.

This is not a cut-and-dried kind of game. By that I mean there is no clear-cut favorite in this game. Paul Skenes should be up to the task against a Detroit lineup that has been struggling at the plate (.233 over the last week). However, Skenes has had some issues in recent games and was pulled after five in his last two starts. After Skenes gets pulled, the Tigers can make their move, but I wouldn’t count on a lineup that has hit just .233 over the last week (seven games).
