Game 1 of the Tigers-Twins series in Minneapolis was a close one, ultimately won by Detroit.

The Tigers were favored at -205 because Skubal took the mound. The Cy Young Award candidate had a rough third inning against the Twins, allowing a home run to Julien in a three-run inning, but Skubal still managed to navigate his start without further incident until the seventh inning, striking out three Twins. Finnegan, the new addition to the Tigers bullpen, got outs and struck out two; Holton also got outs, as did Montero, who ended up earning the W in extra innings. On the hitting side, Green hit a key home run, his 28th of the season.

On Friday, the Twins will then face 41-year-old veteran Charlie Morton, who will pitch Game 2 for the Tigers. Morton is coming off a curious start, striking out seven straight players against the Angels in a 10-strikeout start, while still allowing six earned runs.
