The Astros and Tigers, both preseason prospects to lead their division, are in trouble, as neither has won 35 games, but both have lost more than 40.

The Astros at least took the second game of the series, snapping a two-game losing streak. The Tigers had won the first game 9-3 in an iconic performance, one for the ages, by Colt Keith, who hit 3 home runs, but it was a game in which McGonigle and Torkelson also homered.

The Astros' offense has been more than adequate all season; they have Yordan Álvarez; the Cuban has had an exceptional season and with his numbers could be a strong contender for the MVP. Moreover, on Monday, it was Altuve and Paredes who combined for back-to-back home runs in the loss.

The Astros did silence the Tigers' bats in the second game, limiting them from 11 hits in Game 1 to just 5 in the following game. Houston took a 4-2 lead in Game 2 of the series after scoring three runs in the eighth inning to take the lead; Hader then came in to secure his third save of the season.
