Flaherty will pitch Saturday's game against the Astros. Veteran Verlander will start for the Astros. the total game line was set at 7.5, something rare at Minute Maid Park. This is due to the recent but absolute dominance of Flaherty, who has a WHIP of 0.96, 94 strikeouts and a streak of 11.2 innings without allowing a run and striking out 13. Tigers have won in 3 of Flaherty's last 4 starts.

In collective batting, the Astros are at least top 7 in all offensive categories but this has been little reflected in their record of 31-38. Both teams are 5-5 in last 10 games. Since his return, Verlander has not looked particularly good. especially at Minute Maid Park where he allowed 4 ER to the Cardinals on June 3 and on May 18 Verlander had also allowed 4 ER to the Brewers.
