After the Red Sox epically qualified for the playoffs via a walk-off hit by Rafaela on Friday, Cora rested the Red Sox's main stars in the 161st game of the season, playing players like Hamilton, Eaton, and Sogard. Of course, this was excellent news for the Tigers, as it was a golden opportunity to stop their tremendous losing streak that, incredibly, almost left them missing the playoffs.

But in Saturday's game, the Tigers won 2-1; it was a game they had started as betting favorites with -120 odds, and thanks to an RBI hit by Jahmai Jones that drove in Báez and Dingler, it was enough for the Tigers to win. The late relief came out in great form for the Tigers; Holton pitched four outs, struck out two, and earned the W in the eighth; Vest struck out one and earned his 23rd save.

With the Astros eliminated, and the Red Sox and Tigers playing with relief on Sunday in the season-ending game, there's still something at stake. A win by the Tigers could capitalize on a potential Guards loss to regain the division lead. Meanwhile, many different combinations, depending on whether the Red Sox win on Sunday, would have them facing one of three teams in the playoffs: the Blue Jays, the Yankees, or the Guardians.
