The Edmonton Oilers hope to get back to winning ways on Monday when they host the Detroit Red Wings at Rogers Place. The Oilers' games have been full of goals all season, and another shootout appears likely.
Connor McDavid has just broken Wayne Gretzky’s franchise record for most points scored in the first 10 games of the season. Leon Draisaitl and Evan Bouchard are also in extraordinary offensive form. However, the Oilers have faced major issues on the back end.
Last week alone, Mike Babcock saw his team allow 15 goals in three games. Starting goaltender Devon Levi holds an impressive 6-1-0 record, but he has a lowly .887 save percentage.
The Oilers have just lost Levi to injury and must rely on Tristan Jarry going forward. Jarry made his fourth start of the season on Saturday against Toronto and finished a 7-2 loss with a .883 save percentage while allowing six goals.
Detroit lacks star power up front and has averaged only 2.55 goals so far, but they could easily end up having their highest-scoring outing of the campaign here. At the same time, the Red Wings could get crushed defensively, taking a 65.8 percent penalty kill into a matchup with McDavid & Co.
