The Pistons had a seven-day break between the end of the regular season and their first playoff game against the Orlando Magic. That may have been one of the reasons why Detroit, who won 60 games in the regular season and led the East, looked unrecognizable in the first few games of their series against Orlando. However, thanks to a late rally in the third quarter of Game 2, they managed to win the second game 98–83. Now the tied series moves to the KIA Center.
Pistons fans were relieved to see the usual version of Cade Cunningham in Game 2. The Pistons superstar missed a significant portion of the end of the season with a collapsed lung, but none of that seemed to have affected him, as he scored 27 points, recorded 11 assists, and grabbed six rebounds. In Game 1, he also made history by scoring 39 points in the loss, a career playoff high.
These Pistons, known for their physical play under the basket and their ability to prevent three-pointers, hampered the Magic enough to limit them to just 32% shooting in the loss. The Pistons are attempting to overcome a historic challenge: advancing past the first round of the playoffs for the first time in 18 years.

It's fair to say the Pistons dodged a bullet by winning Game 2; Cunningham's strong performance and solid defense masked the fact that they had a terrible night from the free-throw line, missing 10 attempts and committing 23 turnovers.
Banchero acknowledged the Pistons' defensive intensity after the loss; there's no reason to believe the series will have a different narrative in Orlando. Game 2 saw 48 total fouls, two technicals per side; it will be another hard-fought game where every basket will be at stake, with no one giving anything away.
