With a 2.5-game lead and a 21-5 record, the Pistons lead the Eastern Conference, having defeated the Celtics 112-105 at TD Garden in their most recent victory. On Thursday, the Pistons travel to Dallas to face the Mavericks, who have improved substantially in December.
Although Jaylen Brown scored 34 points for the Celtics, it wasn't enough to beat the Pistons. Harris and LeVert each scored 13 points, and Cade Cunningham took charge for another night, adding 32 points and 10 rebounds. The Pistons attempted 36 three-pointers, making 13, but the most remarkable aspect was their bench scoring; the reserves responded with 47 points.
Meanwhile, the Mavericks' December resurgence stalled on Monday. Dallas had won four of its first five games of the month, including a 131-121 victory against the Nuggets and another stunning 122-109 win against the Rockets, but they started the week with a 133-140 loss to the Jazz at the Delta Center.
This will be the second Pistons-Mavericks matchup of the year; the first took place in Detroit, with the Pistons winning 122-110. That game was a stellar performance from Duren, who scored 33 points.
