DC United host Nashville SC at Audi Field on Saturday in an Eastern Conference match-up. Both teams enter the game with a blend of momentum and issues in their midseason campaigns.
DC United come into this game following a narrow 2–1 away win over Columbus Crew on June 20. Though they were behind early, they equalized Julian Carranza before late substitute Nigel Robertha wrapped up all three points with a 90th-minute strike. That win was their first back-to-back winless-or-better run in some six games and gave them confidence in their dressing room.
Before Columbus, DC United drew at home 1–1 against Toronto FC, in which Carranza once more scored, but were unable to hold on. Earlier in June, they lost 2–0 at Charlotte FC and drew 0–0 at home with Atlanta United.
In those five games, DC averaged 1.0 point per contest and had scored just six goals but allowed eight. Their midseason erraticism dropped them as low as 9th in the Eastern Conference table.
Nashville SC arrive with equally well-balanced form, 7th East. June 21 saw them welcome 2–2 New York Red Bulls: an early lead by Teal Bunbury was reversed, but a late draw was saved by Daniel Ríos.
Previous, there was a 3–1 loss to Orlando City revealing weaknesses—the only goal for Nashville was Hany Mukhtar's. They then secured an outstanding 1–0 victory against Philadelphia Union as Cameron Sangha scored his first MLS goal.
