Thursday will see the top team in the Central Division taking on the leaders of the Pacific as the 45-19-9 Dallas Stars visit the 45-19-8 Vancouver Canucks. The Canucks shut out the Stars when they met at Rogers Arena in November, the Stars gaining revenge in December with a 4-3 overtime win. This is game eight in a monster nine-game home stand for the Canucks, 4-2-1 so far, outscoring their opponents 22-14 in that time. They have really found their way defensively again of late which will be crucial as the Stars are tied for the most goals in the league with the Colorado Avalanche. Thatcher Demko is injured but Casey DeSmith has done a solid job since taking over as number one between the pipes and the blue line has been ensuring that DeSmith is not facing much rubber.
The Stars have five straight wins on the road but two of them were over the San Jose Sharks with the Anaheim Ducks, the Arizona Coyotes and the Los Angeles Kings their other victims. With the exception of the Kings, these are teams that the Stars should be beating with ease and the Kings have the worst home record of any team currently in the playoff spots. The Stars have been scoring plenty of goals in that time but they will have to be at the top of their game against a team who are only conceding 1.7 goals per game in March. Tyler Seguin and Miro Heiskanen are one and two points respectively away from 50 on the season which would give the Stars nine players past that mark.
