The Dallas Stars (43-17-11, 21-7-7 Away) will try to bring their current losing streak to an end when they face the New York Islanders at the UBS Arena in Elmont, NY, Thursday night. Fans can follow the action on ESPN+ once the puck drops at 7 p.m. EST.
Dallas had a great stretch of 15 games from late January through mid-March where they lost just one game, a 5-4 SO vs. the Colorado Avalanche. But since beating Detroit 3-2 in overtime on March 14, they’ve hit a rough stretch. They last played on Tuesday, when they hosted the New Jersey Devils and lost, 6-4. As for the Islanders, New York has been looking for some consistency of late, having gone 5-5 in their last ten games and 1-3 in their last four. Six of the ten were decided by one goal (3-3). They last played Tuesday night when they hosted the Chicago Blackhawks and lost, 4-3.
Center Hintz Roope has been ruled out for the Stars. Tony DeAngelo is currently listed as “day-to-day" but could return Thursday. Ryan Pulock is listed as “out” but could return Thursday as well. The Islanders won when these two teams played in Dallas back on November 18, 3-2.

New Jersey is a good team, but Dallas has been the better team by far this season. They’ve been the more consistent team with better depth. Now, they have lost their last three and four of their last five, so I’d say they could be vulnerable to a mid-level team like the Islanders playing at home with an advantage in the goal. If the Stars were playing a team that was trending up, I’d be concerned, but the Islanders have issues of their own to figure out, and I doubt they will against the Stars.
The better team will win, but don’t count on them to cover.
