The Dallas Cowboys will try to get the season turned around this week when they travel to Atlanta to face Kirk Cousins and the Falcons in Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
A season with high expectations has taken a hard nosedive in the first half of the season. The offense has struggled to run the ball this season, gaining a league-worst 74 yards per game. Dak Prescott has had the passing game working on occasion but has seemed leery of pushing the ball downfield, choosing low-risk, efficient plays most of the time. On the rare occasions, the offense has gotten within scoring range, they’ve had to settle for field goals more often than not.
Things are not any better on the defensive side of the ball for Dallas. They have been gashed in the run game, giving up over 150 yards per game, over 180 in four, and 200+ in two. However, all three of Dallas’s wins have come on the road this season.
So, could they have the Falcons right where they want them?
Atlanta is 2-3 at home. They were manhandled by the Seattle Seahawks in their last home game, 34-14. Kirk Cousins was 24-25 for 232 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.

Dallas can’t run the ball. They don’t have a running back they can count on, nor can they expect the offensive line to open up running lanes. They can’t stop the run, either. Fans may want to see Kirk Cousins slice and dice the Dallas secondary to pieces. But they should expect to see a whole lot of Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier. If Dallas can commit to the downfield passing game and target CeeDee Lamb 50% of the time, they might make this one interesting. But for some crazy reason. Mike McCarthy still thinks Dallas can develop a run game this year.
