Italy takes on Cyprus on Thursday, September 4, at the Spyros Kyprianou Arena in Cyprus.
Despite Italy securing their ticket to the knockout stages, they still want to build momentum heading to Riga. They have a good chance of doing just that when they face a winless Cyprus team.
With a record of 3-1, the Italians are tied with the Greeks at the top of Group C. Most recently, they hacked out a thrilling 67-63 victory over Spain. The Spaniards had a six-point lead at halftime, but a strong third quarter from the Italians turned the tables.
Only two Italian players scored in double digits, including Mouhamet Diouf's 14 and Giampaolo Ricci's 11. Star wing Simone Fontecchio only had eight points on a lowly 18.2% shooting. Nicolo Melli didn't score a single point, missing all his five field goal attempts.
Meanwhile, Cyprus is coming off a disappointing 93-61 loss to Georgia. Cyprus had no answers for Georgia's offense, and as a team, they only shot 34.9% from the field.
Darral Willis Jr. had a team-high 19 points and 7 rebounds. Filippos Tigkas added 11 markers, but these two names were the only double-digit scorers for the hosts Cyprus.
